Asthma is a common lung condition that causes occasional breathing difficulties.
It affects people of all ages and often starts in childhood, although it can also develop for the first time in adults.
There’s currently no cure, but there are simple treatments that can help keep the symptoms under control so it doesn’t have a big impact on your life.
Symptoms The main symptoms of asthma are:
wheezing (a whistling sound when breathing) breathlessness a tight chest, which may feel like a band is tightening around it coughing The symptoms can sometimes get temporarily worse. This is known as an asthma attack.
Several conditions can cause similar symptoms, so it’s important to get a proper diagnosis and correct treatment.
Your GP will usually be able to diagnose asthma by asking about symptoms and carrying out some simple tests.
Treatments
The main types are:
reliever inhalers – used when needed to quickly relieve asthma symptoms for a short time (e.g salbutamol) preventer inhalers (steroid) – used every day to prevent asthma symptoms occurring Some people also need to take tablets.
Causes and triggers Asthma is caused by swelling (inflammation) of the breathing tubes that carry air in and out of the lungs. This makes the tubes highly sensitive, so they temporarily narrow.
It may occur randomly or after exposure to a trigger. Common asthma triggers include:
allergies – to house dust mites, animal fur or pollen, for example smoke, pollution and cold air exercise infections like colds or flu Identifying and avoiding your asthma triggers can help you keep your symptoms under control.

has the same symptoms as asthma, a medical condition that affects breathing and heart rate.
The main difference is that asthma does not cause risk factors for its formation, but it can cause symptoms long-term, so it is often used for a long time and it requires individual change to enjoy it.
It can be prescribed (over the counter) without worrying whether you will have any of the symptoms described here or if you will have a long-lasting allergic reaction. You’ll get these in the next section.
If you don’t suffer from asthma, your doctor will usually prescribe a different type of asthma drug — usually inhaled corticosteroid or beta2-adrenergic antagonist medicine.
beta2-adrenergic antagonist medicines are sometimes used with Ventolin Evohaler to prevent asthma symptoms for a few days or even weeks.
It does this by opening the small airways in the throat and lungs and reducing the amount of adrenaline (amino acid) in the air. This can prevent shortness of breath, angina and heart palpitations.

This blog is a companion blog for all those who are looking to get their hands on the world's first ever Ventolin inhaler.
This inhaler is known by the brand name Ventolin, or salbutamol, and the active ingredient salbutamol sulfate. The inhaler is the part of the inhaler used to give your body the oxygen they need to function normally. It is important to remember that Salbutamol is not the same as a steroid. It belongs to a group of medications known as salbutamol-type drugs, while Ventolin is a beta-2 adrenergic receptor agonist that relaxes the muscles around your airways and the airways to allow them to function normally.
Salbutamol belongs to a group of medications called beta-2 adrenergic receptor agonists. These drugs work to increase the amount of saliva produced and help your body breathe easier.
